Rain Design mStand for Notebooks - Aluminum - Silver

Rain Design mStand for Notebooks - Aluminum - Silver

Product Description

Design Made of a single sturdy piece of aluminum, mStand transforms laptops into stunning desktop counterparts of the Apple iMac and Apple Cinema Display with its elegant curves and silver-anodized finish. The single piece design solidly holds a laptop while the aluminum panel acts a heat sink to keep the laptop cool. A cable hole in the back of the stand routes wires to reduce clutter. ErgonomicsLong-term use of a laptop as the main computing device can strain the body as the user hunches down to see the screen and type. mStand raises the screen 5.9 inches (150 mm) to meet the user's eye level, thus promoting better posture, while its tilt design brings the screen closer for easier viewing. With an external keyboard and mouse, mStand creates an ideal ergonomic desktop setup for laptop users. Compatible with all sizes of Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro, Powerbook. Also fits most 14" standard PC and 15" widescreen PC with depths not more than 10.4 inches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't hesitate - definitely a keeper!, April 1, 2010
By

This review is from: Rain Design mStand for Notebooks - Aluminum - Silver (Accessory)
I saw many of the reviews who had used this with a 15" laptop, and wondered how well it would work with my 17" MBP. I don't know anyone that owns one, so I was a little uncertain. No worries - it works PERFECTLY! See the image I loaded that shows it in use, along with a 22" Gateway monitor, and a 24" HP monitor that complete my workstation.
The design leaves room underneath the unit, which is great for extra storage, or sliding a keyboard under (although it's not quite high enough if you tried to type under it). Solid construction that should last, quite simply, forever. The unit positions the laptop's screen to a height that works perfectly with my other external monitors.
Interestingly enough, the packaging it came in even reminded me of how Apple would have packaged it. It's a wonderful product that fills an obvious need, and is one of those "why didn't I think of that" items. Simple design, beautiful, and very functional.

3.0 out of 5 stars MacBook Pro 15", April 22, 2007

This review is from: Rain Design mStand for Notebooks - Aluminum - Silver (Accessory)
I purchased this for use with a MacBook Pro 15". I totally agree that the stand is of very high quality and beautifully designed.
Unfortunately, I haven't found the product useful because the "slope" of the mStand is quite steep and the lid of the MacBook Pro cannot be pushed back very far. Sitting at my desk, I would need to open the laptop a bit further to get the screen angle just right, but I cannot push the MBP screen back any further, unfortunately, and the mStand's angle is fixed, so...
This product would be very good with a laptop where you can push the screen open to a fairly wide angle or where the balance of screen angle, mStand angle, chair-desk-your height are all perfectly aligned. Otherwise, the mStand won't work so well "out of the box" and you might need to "help" it by placing things under it to play with the height further, thereby distracting from the "clean" design.
Yes, the latch of the MBP is covered by the "lip" of the mStand, so you'd have to lift the laptop off the stand to open the computer or just leave it permanently open or not quite fully closed. Having said this, the optical drive is completely accessible when using this stand, not covered by the lip at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, and it's updated for the MacBook Pro now., December 12, 2007

This review is from: Rain Design mStand for Notebooks - Aluminum - Silver (Accessory)
There's not much to say that hasn't been said before. This is an excellent product that keeps my MacBook Pro nice and cool. There is indeed a notch cut out now toward the bottom so you can now open and close the lid without lifting the laptop out of the holder.
Well worth the money, and probably the best MBP stand out there. Lowered my idle temperatures about 6 degrees over the Logitech Alto Express stand. Boy did my MBP get warm sitting on that puppy, plus you couldn't eject discs while using it. Wish I hadn't wasted the money... You live and learn!
Bottom line: Buy the Mstand. It's superb.

2.0 out of 5 stars Assembly like a nightmare, March 15, 2011

This review is from: Sauder Shoal Creek Executive Desk in Jamocha Wood (Perfect Paperback)
This desk is heavy as hell, and needs at least 2 person to assembly. One person could do it with a lot of difficulty.
I had my first disappointment when the item has arrived. Some parts (and visible ones) were damaged during the transport.
Schema in general explains well how to assembly but some details are skipped, so you have to discover yourself. Assembling this unit is not comparable to assembling a simple desk or any other furniture but requires some carpenter talents. If you don't have some experience on woodwork this is not definitely for you.
Screws are just in number, so try to not loose or damage them. Otherwise you need to buy new ones and some of them are rare to find.
Material is cheap, not solid wood but kinda chipboard. So it could be broken or damaged easily during the installation. This was my case. I had some parts broken during the assembly and mounting of drawers. The finish is lacquer paint on chipboard. It looks nice.
Other problem is moving the unit. It requires at least 2 men to carry. So make sure to not assembly far away from its designed place.
Finally I finished the setup after 10 hours of work (alone) and a lot difficulties. In final, I have a nice-looking desk but one of the drawers is broken and fixed by wood glue. I have several paint damage on arrival. (probably I need to touch-up).

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good! Better than I expected!, April 11, 2011

This review is from:  Boss High Back Executive Chair with Pillow top Pewter Finished Base and Arms (Kitchen)
I'm fairly new at the review thing - Hopefully this will be helpful to someone.
First - The chair arrived in quick time. I ordered it on Thursday and got it on Monday (today).
It arrives in a large box that's packed well and isn't extremely heavy.
I want to stress - This item was SUPER EASY to assemble. It only requires a Phillips head screwdriver and comes together with 12 screws.
Can't find the screws? That's because they're already screwed in. The company ships the product with the screws in place to make sure they're all there upon shipping. By the way, I called Norstar Office Products (Boss Chair People) to find the screws and they were really quick with the answers. Quick service with real people that answered the phone. Of course I felt pretty dumb after they told me they were screwed in, but they said it happens all the time. Just remove the screws, and get ready to assemble.
I am not much of a handy man, and it only took me about 25-30 minutes to assemble the chair after unpacking the box and checking all the parts.
It's really just a matter of lining up the screws with the holes in the arm rests. After some really good hand tightening the chair feels VERY solid. There's definitely a lumbar lift(?) in the back which feels great and causes me to sit upright instead of slouching forward. I'm 5'7 and the size works for me, though I can also see how someone a bit taller would find the lumbar even more comfortable just slightly lower down the back.
The Vinyl feels like high quality material. Better than I expected. Soft to the touch, yet durable.
I'm a bit of a 'flat' bottomed guy, and the cushioning on this chair is more than adequate for me. I had to put pillows and such on my prior chair for extended seating. I don't imagine I'll have that issue with this one... at least so far.
The chair rocks/reclines great and the gas lift works as you would expect.
I wasn't sure if the seat went up high enough at first, but once I pulled it up to my desk I found myself actually lowering the chair a bit.
The arm rests are at the proper height. Though not adjustable, it seems like they're in the ideal place for me, so not a concern there. Very comfortable and padded, and actually at just the right height for me to type while relaxed.
At this price, you can't beat it. I would be pleased with the quality of this chair even if I had paid more for it (but I'm glad I didn't)
I was very skeptical buying a chair online. No need to worry with this one!
As I've only been using it for about an hour, I'll try to do a follow up after a week or so...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent chair, January 6, 2011

This review is from: Boss High Back Executive Chair with Pillow top Pewter Finished Base and Arms (Kitchen)
I received this chair about a week ago and I couldn't be happier with it. It is super soft and comfortable with good lumbar and head support (for when you want to lean back and relax.
Assembly is simple but requires a lot of unscrewing (to get the screws)and then rescrewing. Specs don't mention that the chair holds up to 250 lbs. and it is recommended that you purchase "soft" wheels unless you are using it on carpet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Chair, March 16, 2011

This review is from: Boss High Back Executive Chair with Pillow top Pewter Finished Base and Arms (Kitchen)
Its been very difficult to find a good office chair these days for a good price, but I think this chair actually gets it done. Its not a thickly cushioned chair like some others, but it's still very comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time. It has 3 levels of height which work very well, but I like the lowest setting because I like a chair lower to the ground. Another thing worth noting is the chairs general appearance. It's very attractive and classy looking. The materiel is also very soft and feels very nice on skin, such as bare arms when you rest them on the arm rests. I had a little trouble in assembling. The screw holes are set into sockets and you cannot hand tighten them to get it started. When you can't get it started by hand tightening... then you cant "feel" the actual connection between the screw and the bolt, so Its just tough to make sure your not cross threading when getting it started with a screwdriver. So it was a little tough to assemble the arms to the seat and back, but once I was done I was very happy with the result. I would say that the overall design might have a durability flaw. The back is only held by two arm screws on each side, but unless I start behaving zany manner, like putting my feet up on a desk, or really bearing my weight into the back of it it will probably last for years. Very pleased with the chair so far. I think it's an overall good value and nice chair.
